There’s no designated shopping district in Nashville, but certain neighborhoods have a better-than-average selection of retail offerings. From department stores to tiny boutiques, here’s where to go for a satisfying shopping spree in Music City.
Maybe there’s so much traffic in Green Hills because there are so many stores. The first obvious stop is the behemoth Mall at Green Hills, which houses necessities like the city’s only Apple Store, department store showings from Crate & Barrel, Nordstrom, and Macy’s, and popular brands like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Kate Spade, Madewell, Coach, and Burberry, all under one roof. For a more boutique shopping experience, the nearby Hill Center offers up Hemline (women’s clothing), Posh (women’s clothing), and local musician Holly Williams’ White’s Mercantile (modern general store) and H. Audrey (women’s clothing)—plus decor destinations Pottery Barn (furniture and decor store) and West Elm (furniture and decor store). And while you’re in the area, you might as well stock up on groceries at either Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s. Still have energy? A visit to Parnassus (indie bookstore), across from the mall, never disappoints.
If you’re looking for a new outfit, you’ll likely find it somewhere in Hillsboro Village. Boutiques in this ever-changing neighborhood include Posh (men and women’s clothing), Revv (women’s clothing), Molly Green (women’s clothing), Scout & Molly’s (women’s clothing), and Native + Nomad (women’s clothing), Onward Reserve (men’s clothing), Arcade (kidswear). Don’t overlook UAL (designer liquidator), which sells designer inventory at up to 90% off. For gifts or quirky decor, make sure to stop in A Thousand Faces (artisan shop) or Hey Rooster General Store (modern general store).
12 South is rapidly growing as a hub for local specialty makers, like the iconic Imogene + Willie (men and women’s clothing), and Judith Bright (jewelry shop). Curated boutiques along this bustling strip include Hero (women’s clothing), Emerson Grace (women’s clothing), MODA (women’s clothing), Vinnie Louise (women’s clothing), and Reese Witherspoon’s sweetly Southern Draper James (women’s clothing and decor). Speaking of sweet: Get an ice pop at Las Paletas before finishing your shopping spree at White’s Mercantile (modern general store) —another local retail spot opened by Holly Williams. Some national shops have joined the 12 South lineup as well including Outdoor Voices (athletic attire), Madewell (men and women’s clothing), and Marine Layer (men and women’s clothing). Lastly, if you’re into vintage items and clothing, Savant Vintage (vintage shop) is a must-visit in this neighborhood.
In addition to being a hotbed for award-winning restaurants, Germantown has a thriving indie retail scene. Make sure to check out Abednego (men and women’s clothing), Alexis + Bolt (men and women’s clothing), Pieces (women’s clothing), Nisolo (handmade shoes and accessories), White Dresses (wedding dress shop) and Bits & Pieces (antique boutique). FYI: The Nashville Farmers’ Market, stocked with produce, plants, flowers, and more, isn’t far from here.
Upon entering East Nashville, make a beeline for the Fatherland District—this is where you’ll find The Shoppes on Fatherland, which includes Project 615 (local apparel), Longevity (activewear), Gift Horse (gifts and knicknacks), Abode Mercantile (bath products), and Rusty Rats (funky antiques). In nearby Five Points is the Idea Hatchery, another cluster of unique shops like the Goodbuy Girls (vintage-focused clothing). You can also find several vintage shops in East Nashville such as Old Made Good (repurposed and vintage items) and Fanny’s House of Music (instruments and vintage clothing). At the Shops at Porter East you will find Amelia Styles (women’s clothing), Apple and Oak (home goods), and Lucaya Clothing Co. (women’s clothing). If you are looking for some statement pieces to add to your wardrobe we recommend checking out Any Old Iron (men’s and women’s clothing).
If you’re wanting to shop local boutiques and big name stores you should head to the The Gulch. This neighborhood might be small, but is filled with some of the best shopping. For a more local shopping experience check out Blush (women’s clothing), Two Old Hippies (men’s and women’s clothing), Parish (women’s clothing), e.Allen (women’s clothing), and Lucchese Boot Company (high-end boots). Some national shops joined The Gulch neighborhood as well including Frye (high-end boots), Urban Outfitters (men’s and women’s clothing), Patagonia (men’s and women’s clothing), and Loft (women’s clothing). Make sure you stop by Kittenish (women’s clothing) which is owned by Jessie James Decker and Uncommon James (women’s jewelry) which is owned by Kristin Cavallari.
West Nashville is a wide-spread neighborhood made up of smaller areas like Sylvan Park and The Nations. Start off your shopping excursion in Sylvan Park and stop by Elle Gray (women’s clothing), OAK Nashville (home decor), and Import Flowers (flower shop). Next, head to L&L Marketplace, an up-scale indoor shopping center located on Charlotte Pike, that includes Happily Grey (women’s clothing & home decor), Savory & Spice (spice shop), Amelia’s Flower Shop (flower shop), Daphne (home decor), Imago Dei (women’s clothing), Made in TN (gift shop), and Living With Landyn (women’s clothing & home decor). Lastly, swing by The Nations and check out ABLE (women’s clothing) and Project 615 (philanthropic t-shirt & apparel company).
